The History of Battery Electric Vehicles
Battery Electric Vehicles or BEVs, predated the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. It was between 1832-1839 that Robert Anderson, a Scottish businessman, invented the first electric carriage and Professor Sibrandus Stratingh from the Netherlands designed the first small-scale electric car which was built by his assistant Christopher Becker in 1835.
The storage battery improved, firstly by Gaston Plant?, a French physicist who invented the lead acid cell in 1859 and the first rechargeable battery. Then, in 1881, Camille Faure developed a more efficient and reliable battery which became so successful in the early electric cars. This discovery caused battery electric vehicles to flourish, with France and Great Britain being the first nations to support widespread development of electric vehicles.
Prior to 1900, battery electric vehicles held many speed and distance records, the most notable of which, was the breaking of the 100 km/h (60 mph) speed barrier. It was by Camille Jenatzy on April 29, 1899 in a rocket-shaped vehicle named Jamais Contente (Never Happy) which reached a top speed of 105.88 km/h (65.79 mph). Read the rest of this entry »
How to Check the History of a Used Car
When you are about to spend several thousand dollars for a used car, wouldn't you like to be as certain as possible that you are buying a sound and reliable vehicle? It is possible and not too difficult to get a vehicle history report on the car you plan to buy before you make the purchase. Information from that report can definitely help you in deciding whether or not you should buy this particular vehicle. Sometimes what you learn from such a report will be a deal-breaker. You might find that the odometer has been rolled back thousands of miles, that the car has a salvage title, that it received significant damage as a result of an accident, flooding, fire, or storm, or you might even find that the vehicle has been stolen.
Quite often, if you are going through a dealer, you will be furnished a report by them. If one isn't offered, be sure to ask for it as they don't always volunteer to provide the report. If the dealer or owner of the used vehicle does not make a report available to you, you should get the VIN, or vehicle identification number, then go online to search out sites where you can order a report for yourself. The VIN can be found on the vehicle's title , or it is located near the bottom of the windshield on the driver's side. Just entering the VIN in your browser's search box is sometimes all you need to do. Most of these sites will charge a fee for the car history, but there are some sites out there where you can get one for free. You should, however, be aware that all car history reports are not created equal. Be sure to do the proper research to find a site that gives you a report with as much information as possible about the car you are thinking of buying. Even if you have to pay a fee, it is usually well worth the cost since it might save you from spending a lot of money on a vehicle that isn't what it has been represented to be. History of Air Conditioning
Odds are you are beating this summer's Long Island heat by reading this in a cool, comfortable place with your air conditioning running. Air conditioning is as familiar as part of our modern world as freeways, jet air travel and gourmet coffee.
Yet most people over the age of 50 grew up in a world in which air conditioning was more a luxury than a part of everyday life. And people in their 70's or beyond can recall a time when air conditioning was reserved for commercial buildings and virtually unheard of in anyone's home.
The invention of air conditioning traces back to early in this century, 1902, when a Brooklyn, NY printing firm found that distortion in the paper caused by excess heat and humidity made it hard to align color images. A clever young engineer named Willis Carrier designed a way to control temperature and humidity for that printing firm. In 1906, Carrier patented that initial device, called "An Apparatus for Treating Air." Read the rest of this entry »

Piper Aircraft – Great History
As a kid, I always dreamt of flying in a plane. Just like most kids of my age, I used to make paper planes and hang then proudly hang them near my bed so that they would be the first thing that I saw in the morning. I got older but was still obsessed with aircrafts and piper aircraft quickly became my favorite.
As a child, I bought lots of books on piper jet planes and spend hours reading them. Now all my friends ask me if they have any query regarding any experimental aircraft or antique aircraft. I also like Cessna airplanes but I was crazy about piper planes. I am here writing about piper aircraft and you should enjoy this write up if you share the same passion for these products as I do. Piper planes quickly got famous in the market in 1930s because of its singular yellow Piper J-3 Cub. Since then, this company has regarded the personal aircraft as an important business product and this holds true even today. Read the rest of this entry »
