How to Select A Yacht Broker
How do I decide on a yacht broker to sell my boat? How do I find the correct yacht broker to sell my vessel? These are questions that you as a yacht owner may ask when it is time to sell your boat. In my communication with sellers, I find that the majority, if not all of them had no idea when deciding on the brokerage to represent them. Their choice was made arbitrarily it seems. When you are prepared, you need to find a first-class yacht brokerage that you can rely on. Some of the points that you should think about are honesty, value and competency.
A yacht is a huge expenditure and a lot of people desire to purchase one from a yacht brokerage. A brokerage sells boats to interested people for a commission. Obviously, before you think about which one to go with when selling, you will want to be familiar with the commission fee that they charge; it is a standard 10% in the industry. History of Air Conditioning
Odds are you are beating this summer's Long Island heat by reading this in a cool, comfortable place with your air conditioning running. Air conditioning is as familiar as part of our modern world as freeways, jet air travel and gourmet coffee.
Yet most people over the age of 50 grew up in a world in which air conditioning was more a luxury than a part of everyday life. And people in their 70's or beyond can recall a time when air conditioning was reserved for commercial buildings and virtually unheard of in anyone's home.
The invention of air conditioning traces back to early in this century, 1902, when a Brooklyn, NY printing firm found that distortion in the paper caused by excess heat and humidity made it hard to align color images. A clever young engineer named Willis Carrier designed a way to control temperature and humidity for that printing firm. In 1906, Carrier patented that initial device, called "An Apparatus for Treating Air." Read the rest of this entry »

Gear Up Your Truck for Towing Season
Depending on your activity of choice, towing season can take place anytime between January and December these days. And whether you're towing jet skis to the lake or snow mobiles to the slopes, you need a reliable trailer hitch that allows you to tow as much as humanly possible while providing the highest level of safety.
Trailer hitches come in two standard varieties: receiver hitch and fixed-drawbar trailer hitches. A receiver hitch is the more functional of the two, mounting directly onto the frame of your rig. It accepts removable ball mounts, trailers or other hitch-mounted accessories. Fixed-drawbar hitches usually feature one-piece construction, with a built-in hole for the trailer ball, and are usually not compatible with aftermarket accessories.
Trailer hitches are classified into five separate categories based on the amount of weight they'll support. Classes 1 and 2 accommodate lighter loads of no more than 3,500 lbs. Classes 3, 4 and 5 contain heavy-duty trailer hitches and can muscle up to 10,000 lbs. They're intended for towing larger items like boats and campers. And for even more towing capacity, a fifth wheel hitch or gooseneck hitch can be added for between16,000 and 30,000 lbs of towing strength. Read the rest of this entry »

A Few Smog Test Tips
Educating yourself on smog tests and how to pass them is one of those essential pieces of information that everyone in California should know. There are both pitfalls and tips involved in passing a smog test. A lot of people unknowingly kill their chances of passing a smog test thinking that they're doing helpful things that actually cause their vehicle to fail. The perfect example of this is people buying high octane fuel for their smog test. People have the idea that using premium 91 octane fuel is a good way to help them pass a smog test. Seems to make sense right? Very wrong. High octane fuel has a higher mixture of combustive chemicals, meaning that it's formulated specifically for high performance engines. When you use 91 octane fuel in an engine not built for it, the fuel won't be completely burned inside the chamber, meaning that every time your piston fires, some unburnt fuel will be released into the exhaust system as pollution, causing MUCH more emissions to fly out of the tail pipe. Using high octane fuel for your smog test can cause an ordinarily healthy engine to fail. Read the rest of this entry »
